Macro Studio accepts the following image formats:

  • TIFF (8-bit and 16-bit) — recommended for best quality
  • PNG (8-bit and 16-bit)
  • JPEG
  • Common RAW formats (via LibRaw)

The fastest way: drag a folder of images directly onto the Macro Studio window. All supported images in the folder will be loaded as a single stack.

Go to File > Open Stack… and select one or more image files. Hold Shift or Cmd/Ctrl to select multiple files.

Macro Studio automatically sorts frames by filename. For best results, name your files sequentially (e.g., IMG_0001.tif, IMG_0002.tif, …).

If your camera’s naming convention doesn’t sort correctly, you can reorder frames manually in the stack panel by dragging them.

  • Shoot with a tripod when possible — alignment works on handheld shots, but tripod shots produce cleaner results
  • Use consistent exposure across all frames — manual exposure mode is recommended
  • Overlap your focus zones — each frame should share some in-focus area with the next
  • More frames = smoother stacking — 10–30 frames is typical for most macro subjects
